Bluebirds in seventh heaven after crushing poor Carew

9:45am Wednesday 1st October 2008

Haverfordwest County 7.

Carew 1.

The Bluebirds were in seventh heaven after crushing rock-bottom Carew at the Bridge Meadow, writes Nichole Sarra.

It didn’t take the Bluebirds long to get on the score sheet, Dai Davies scoring from the edge-of-the box with ten minutes gone.

The Bluebirds doubled their lead with half an hour gone. Striker Mike Preddy’s skilful turn in the penalty box gave him the time and space to neatly plant his shot into the bottom corner.

However, Carew did fight back and caught the Bluebirds defence off guard as Richard Bullock’s controlled volley smashed into the back of the net.

Just before the interval Preddy added his second of the game, tapping in a rebound from a vicious Craig George effort.

In the second period, the Bluebirds continued to dominate and extended their lead as Dai Davies made no mistake with the fourth.

Pacey Preddy completed his hat-trick beating the Carew keeper Davies to put the game beyond doubt.

Bluebirds defender Adi Smith also scored after a threatening solo run and shot from the edge-of-the-box.

In the 85th Bluebirds substitute Tommy Taylor cracked in the seventh.

Despite the scoreline Carew didn’t give up and in the closing minutes of the game were rewarded when Sam Goodwin was pulled down in the box and referee Jeff Hurton pointed to the spot.

Carew’s Sam Hart’s lacklustre effort was comfortably saved by Bluebirds keeper Earp, summing up poor old Carew’s dismal afternoon.
