Scales tips the balance

Narberth (146 for 4) beat Neyland (145 for 6)

Narberth maintained their recent run of good league form, as an innings of 55 not out by Mike Scale helped them beat Neyland in an absorbing clash at the Lewis Lloyd ground.

The visitors reached 145 for 6 but couldn’t stop Scale and Wayne Howells seeing Narberth home with a little to spare.

Scott John (28) and Paul Murray (24) had given Neyland a solid start, which was continued by skipper Andrew Miller (28) and Phil Davies (21) but Kyle Quartermaine (2 for 21) and Matthew Johns (3 for 33) hauled Narberth back in to contention so that, although Patrick Bellerby (21 not out) finished off well, the visitors might have felt they needed a few more runs under their belts.

Patrick Hannon struck an early blow for Neyland after tea when he removed Narberth captain Ritchie Adams cheaply but Howells had six fours in his 47, before he fell to Andrew Mille. Scale looked a class act as he stroked five fours in his 55 not out, as he and Howells took Narberth well down the road to victory. Phil Davies picked up two wickets for Neyland, as Narberth wobbled momentarily but Kyle Quartermaine completed a good overall performance with 17 runs, before he holed out to Patrick Hannon at long-on and it was left to Aaron Keane to join Scale on the late-run-in to victory, earning Narberth a welcome 27 points and fourth place in the league table.

Neyland opener Paul Murray delicately clips the ball through the legside on his way to scoring 24 runs in his side’s disappointing league defeat at the hands of Narberth.
