Lawrenny (229 for 5) drew with Hook (182 for 5)
Lawrenny looked in a commanding position as they scored a huge 229 for 5 and had Hook struggling at 99 for 5 but then an unbroken partnership of 83 by Brennan Lay and Mick Haltam helped Hook secure
a battling draw.
Top scorer for Lawrenny was Steve Lewis, who reeled off a powerful ten fours and two sixes, a classy 66 after Andrew Cole (13) and Brad Jenkins (29) had given the innings a solid start. Lewis shared in a stand of 98 with his captain, Hugh Griffiths, who finished on 49 not out in cahoots with Ian Jenkins’ 37 not out (four fours and two sixes). They added a late 65 runs, which sent the Lawrenny total way beyond the 200 mark, despite a three-wicket haul from Ross Martin, plus a wicket each for Jamie Phelps and talented teenage spinner Jack Britton.
Hook made a good start as Jamie Phelps (33) and Ben Field (27), continued their superb run of form with a partnership of 53 before they were separated as Steve Lewis (2 for 42) was joined by Steve Rees, who marked his return to the first team after a long absence with fine figures of 3 for 10.
At 99 for 5 Hook might have fallen into real bother but Lay stayed calm to score 46 not out (two fours and two sixes) alongside Haltam’s 35 not out (five fours) so that Hook were able to hold on comfortable for the draw and a welcome ten points as their reward.
