Williams stars for Tish

Lawrenny (83 all out) lost to St Ishmaels (134 for 9)

Andrew Williams was the undoubted star of St Ishmaels’ win at Lawrenny as he steamed in to claim this season’s best analysis of 7 for 15 to help shoot out Lawrenny for only 83 runs and send Tish to a 51-run win.

Such a success seemed unlikely earlier in the match as only James Salter and Peter Bradshaw, with 28 apiece, plus a speedy 22, including five fours, from Johnny Pawlett looked comfortable among the Tish batsmen in their tally of 134 for 9 wickets against tight bowling from Steve Rees (3 for 21) and Ben Cole (3 for 29) supported by Richard Prout (2 for 44) and Steve Lewis (1 for 6).

Bradshaw and Salter had shared a third wicket partnership of 40 and the determination of second team skipper Robbie Thomas (17 not out) and tail-ender Lenny Rees (12) made sure that Tish reached a rather unimpressive final scoreline.

But Tish fought back as Pawlett trapped Brad Jenkins for only four runs and skipper Hugh Griffiths was also adjudged lbw to Salter, leaving Lawrenny looking shaky on 12 for 2. Andrew Cole (23) and Steve Lewis (26) batted well in taking the score to 52 but then Williams stepped up as first-change bowler and exerted his considerable influence in bowling them both. Ian Jenkins was the only other Lawrenny batsman to manage double figures as he scored 13 whilst Williams had five batsmen clean bowled in his mean spell – and off-spinner Danny Flynn also picked up a wicket from his two-over cameo to help Williams finish off the innings and give Tish a welcome 29 points.
