Pembrokeshire horse trainers and riders featured well in the first point-to-point meeting of the season.

Nine passed the finish post for the restricted open. Rith Bobb fell on the 5/4 favourite and Dai Rees’ trained seven-year-old took full advantage to provide John Mathias with his third winner of the meeting.

It amazingly provided the village of Clarbeston Road with it’s third winner, as previous winners Makena (Kristal Harries) and Oca De Thaix (Robert Luke) are also from the small Pembrokeshire village.

With ground conditions getting more testing as the meeting went on. For the final race, the horses and geldings maiden‚ a further fence was omitted.

Ruth Birt-Llewellin on board Mr Who were popular winners after fighting out a close finish with Richard Wollocott on O’Rage. Mr Who is trained by Ruth at her parent’s farm at Little Haven, the pair have previously been consistently placed in maidens without actually winning. Most days Ruth and Mr Who can be seen working out on the beach at Broad Haven.

The second round of the West Wales Pony Racing series is the Tivyside meeting on Saturday, March 13th, at 11am, and the point-to-point card gets underway at noon.
