Rookie lifesaving school success

3:00pm Sunday 21st March 2010

A new beginner lifesaving course for children aged eight to 12 was held over February half-term at Haverfordwest leisure centre.

The free Rookie lifesaving school was attended by 17 children, each of whom learned water safety and personal survival skills and how to perform rescues.

At the end of the week, they all achieved their Rookie Bronze 1 Award. As well as teaching children valuable water safety and lifesaving skills, it is hoped that the lifesaving clubs and schools will help to produce lifeguards of the future.

The Lifesaving Club takes place on Tuesday nights at 7.30pm at Haverfordwest leisure centre.

Due to its popularity, additional club sessions will be starting weekly, between 5pm and 6pm.

The tutors who ran the Rookie School also volunteer with the club.
