An Impressive Pembrokeshire mountain runner has helped Team GB gain bronze at a major championship staged in Bulgaria recently.

Michael Kallenberg, of Parcllyn, represented Great Britain in the European Mountain Running Championships Junior Men’s Race in Sapareva Banya, Bulgaria.

Mike was the only Welsh athlete running for Team GB and he finished the 9km course which consisted of two laps and had a three kilometre climb very strong in 13th, and was second placed GB runner. With a close group finish from three, GB runners won the bronze team medal, only missing out on the silver medal by two places.

An extra plus for Team GB was that Mike was also credited with running the fastest final mile of the course of all the runners that ran in the championships.

Michael has trained long and hard over the winter months to race in the European Championships and he still has a busy summer ahead. He will compete at the Snowdon International at the end of this month and the GB team trial for the World Mountain Running Championships will be held in early September.
