Smashing send off for Stewart

St Ishmaels (87 for 1) beat Herbrandston (85 all out) St Ishmaels said farewell to Aussie ‘import’ Stewart Kimpton in style as he finished off his four years at Tish with an unbeaten 31 that helped them to an easy local-derby win over Herbrandston.

But it was the Tish bowling attack, ably assisted by some good fielding, which set up this success as only Gary Davies (20), Simon Mathias (13) and Leigh Broome (10) managed double figures for Herbie as they were shot out for 85.

James Salter (2 for 11) and Andrew Palmer (4 for 20) bowled well for Tish, with excellent support from Andrew Williams (2 for 7) and Andrew Pawlett (2 for 25).

Tish lost opener Danny Flynn for a duck, caught by keeper Lee Marchant off Nathan Banner’s bowling, but Kimpton was joined by skipper Jonathan Pawlett in an unbroken stand of 87 from only 13.1 overs.

Kimpton finished in style as he had five fours in his 31 not out whilst Pawlett was back to his free-flowing best. He rapped five fours and three sixes in his 53 not out that saw Tish claim 27 points and Herbie just two points as they faced a nerve-wracking wait to see if they had been relegated before getting the good news that they were safe.

Umpires: Steve Blowes and Arthur Brady.

Scorers: Wendy Bradshaw and Leah Mitchell.
