Laurence wins landmark medal

A PEMBROKE Dock man has made a major breakthough for a local shooting club.

Laurence Brown has become the first person in South Wales to win a medal in the National Blind Shooting League.

Although he has only been shooting for eight months, Laurence came top of division 10 of the 14 division league.

He received a gold medal for his efforts and next season will compete at a higher standard.

Following his success he will now jump two leagues and shoot in division eight.

Laurence is a member of the Modern Print Inclusive Target Club.

The shooting club is based in St Patrick’s Community Hall on Treowen Road in Pembroke Dock.

It has facilities for both sighted and visually impaired members, and had a number of successes in 2011.

Angela Miles, disability sports development officer for Sport Pembrokeshire – said she was delighted with the progress of the club.

“Their range for blind shooting has only been open for eight months and already gold medals are being achieved,” she said.

“I am delighted with how far they have come.”

The club holds three training sessions every week.

Training takes place at the following times: Monday 6pm-9pm; Tuesday 11am-1pm; Thursday 6pm-9pm.

If anyone is interested in joining the club please contact founder member Ron Hovell on 07971 170852, or Alan Gibby on 07980 526014.
