HAYDN Cole from Lamphey was the winner of the 10th Wales Air Ambulance Open Beach Fishing Competition last month.
The event, organised by members from a variety of West Wales clubs, was held on Amroth beach in South Pembrokeshire.
Overall, 102 anglers took part in the male and female competitions.
Haydn managed to land 11 flounder, weighing a total of three kilograms and 690 grams, to land first place and the £200 prize money.
In second place was Cardiff angler Franco Attanasio while Swansea angler Nick Bevan was third.
There was more local success in the pool for the heaviest fish – Mike Williams from Tenby winning with a flounder weighing 840 grams. He received £102.
Cole completed a memorable double with victory in the pairs event.
He teamed up with Ken Gainfort, from St Ishmaels, to pip Jeff and Chris Stephens into second place.
John O’Connor, from Pembroke Dock, and Andrew Skeels. from Lamphey, were third.
Mair Owen from Carmarthen was the winner of the ladies section, with Sandra Thompson and Sheila Sear-Witts (both of Milford Haven) in second and third place respectively.
Another Milford angler, Daniel Tucker, was winner of the junior section.
All funds from the day were donated to the Wales Air Ambulance and an impressive £1,491 was raised. The amount means the grand total donated since the competition began 10 years ago has now exceeded £14,000.
Organisers said they wanted to thank everyone who had made donations and sponsored the event.
