Youth league gives red card to foul language

THE Pembrokeshire Football League is concerned at the increasing levels of violent and foul-mouthed incidents going on in junior and mini football matches across the county.

Secretary Bran Hawkins said: “Sadly we are finding that more and more unsavoury incidents involving children in the mini age group are being reported to us.

“We are not happy with that and I want to send a strong clear message to all those involved. These matters will be dealt with by the league and will not be tolerated. We aim to stamp out the bad eggs and let the majority enjoy their football.”

Pembrokeshire football numbers are in a healthy state. There are nearly 1,200 children enjoying playing on Saturday mornings.

“But coaches, players and spectators must realise they have a responsibility,” added Hawkins. “We cannot condone foul and abusive language nor will we tolerate violence.”

The league’s governing body, the West Wales Football Association, will take harsh action with anyone or club who is found guilty.

“Behave or else suffer the consequences. I just want everyone to enjoy grassroots football and coaches and parents should do so as well.”
