MILFORD Haven’s Sandra Thompson secured a big win at the annual RNLI Fishing Open in Amroth last month.
Sandra came in with a flounder of 670 grams to secure first place.
Unfortunately there was no local double as Cwmbran angler Neil Evans landed five flounder, weighing two kilograms and 350 grams, to take the £250 first prize.
But in second place was Mike Mather from Kenfig Hill, who bagged £75. Lamphey’s Haydn Cole, winner of the Wales Air Ambulance open, was third and received £50.
The pairs competition was won comfortably by the top two individual contestants, with Evans and Mather winning with room to spare.
The prize for the biggest individual flounder went to Maenclochog resident Bryce Cochrane. His fish weighed in at 970 grams and won him £100.
The junior winner on the day was Cameron Pritchard, who caught two flounder weighing one kilogram and 40 grams.
Overall, 96 anglers took part in the day, although only 39 managed to finish in the difficult weather conditions.
The main sponsor of the event was the Felinfoel Double Dragon Brewery, and all proceeds from the day went to the Angle and Tenby lifeboats.
Overall, more than £1,200 was raised, a £100 more than the previous total in 2011.
The event was organised by a number of West Wales angling clubs, while the Amroth Arms also provided support.
Saundersfoot Angling Club also held a club match within the competition to help boost entry numbers.
