Haverfordwest 7-11 Tenby United

Division three west - Tenby United put in an excellent display to claim victory at division three west league leaders Haverfordwest.

The Seasiders gained revenge for a 34-17 home defeat as they opened up a 11-0 gap at the interval and restricted the Blues to just a converted try in the second half.

A strong platform for the Seasiders was their front row of Johnny Palmer, skipper Nicky Guymer and Geoff Martin, with Luke Dedman playing superbly alongside Richard Rossiter, Laurens Brits and Sam Smith, despite the sad loss of his grandfather and the Tenby team dedicating their victory to his memory.

They gained an early penalty which No 10 Tom Lewis banged between the posts and although he was off target when winger Simon Stanford scored an opportunist try he added a second three-pointer before the interval to extend the Seasiders’ lead to 11 points.

The second half was equally as hard-fought and Craig Barnett rounded off a Haverfordwest move instigated, by Andrew Slark playing on permit from Neyland) and Steve Williams, who converted Barnett’s try. But good defensive work by Jason Scarfe, Sion Brace, Toby Smith and Co ensured there were no more points conceded by the Seasiders.

So the Blues were unable to add any further points and this win helps Tenby move up the table as their reward, while Haverford-west are still six points clear, with two games in hand, over the chasing teams in the table.
