Ammanford 31-38 Narberth

Division one west - NARBERTH completed their expected double over lowly Ammanford and secured a bonus point that puts them seven points ahead of the chasing pack.

However, they conceded 14 points in the closing stages so The Otters’ winning margin was less than expected.

Ammanford, boosted by some players on permit from Carmarthen Quins and Llandovery, scored first when outside half Carwyn Richards notched a penalty.

Narberth responded with a cracking try from full back Johnny Morgan as he cut inside to score at the posts and fly half Stuart Morris converted.

The lead was short-lived as prop Wyn Jones ploughed over for Ammanford and Richards converted.

The Otters took a 21-10 lead into half time as quick thinking by Adrian Killa earned the scrum half a try and Morris added the extras, as he did when back row man Timoci Kaumaitotoya burst over right on half time.

When Morris landed a penalty and then converted a try by flanker Wayne Williams it seemed all over, but back came the home side again with a try from winger Tom Rees, converted by Richards.

Narberth skipper Steve Martin sliced through for a try, converted by Morris, and at 38-17 it seemed all over bar the shouting.

But late tries from prop Wyn Jones and winger Gary Stephens, both converted by Richards, earned Ammanford a bonus point for their part in an entertaining tussle.
