Swalec bowl - MILFORD Haven’s hopes of reaching the last eight in the Swalec Bowl Competition were dashed just seconds before the end of their stirring clash at Dolgellau.
Home No 8 Liam Pugh was the hero of the hour as he crashed over for the winning score to give his side the win.
This match certainly showed the ups and downs of cup rugby because Milford’s hardy band of supporters thought they had pretty much snatched victory just before that.
A strong scrum earned them a penalty try when they were 20-15 adrift – and Leigh Broome’s simple conversion nudged the Mariners 22-20 ahead.
Fortunes had ebbed and flowed all afternoon as flanker Dewi Thomas and wingers Tristan Evans and Ian Jones-Morris joined Pugh on the Dolgellau try sheet.
There was also a conversion and penalty by home full back Dion Jones.
For the Mariners, there were tries for the impressive Gareth Fawcett and Ian Rusinek alongside their late penalty try, whilst Leigh Broome also landed another conversion and a penalty.
It was a very disappointing final result for Milford Haven after such a long journey and a great deal of on-field effort.
But now the the Mariners must focus on trying to scoop the silverware in division four (west).
