St Ishmaels (144 all out) lost to Carew (148 for 8)
Carew edged their way to a four-run win at St Ishmaels that left the home side wondering how they managed to lose after standing at 130 for 4 in pursuit of Carew’s 148 for 8.

Carew’s start to their innings, after being invited to bat first, was less than impressive after openers Nick Scourfield and Ian Sefton had both departed with 12 runs apiece. At 59 for 5 after 24 overs their score looked likely to be less than challenging.

But skipper Robbie Hicks, as good a battler as there comes, joined forces with Martin Scourfield in redressing the balance in a stand of 80 before Hicks was out from the final ball of the innings, with six fours in his 62 runs, bowled by Robbie Thomas.

Scourfield ended up with an important 30 not out against Jonathan Pawlett (2 for 33), Andrew Williams (3 for 28) and Andrew Pawlett (2 for 32) – and although Carew would have been slightly disappointed not to achieve fully batting bonus points, they had compiled a challenging total in the circumstances.

St Ishmaels looked positive as Peter Bradshaw had five fours in his 54 and Jonathan Pawlett scored 40 (five fours) despite good bowling by Tom Davies (4 for 23), Matthew Phillips (2 for 42, and Rhys Davies (2 for 22). They lost Andrew Williams, run out to a direct hit by Gareth Lewis – and Bradshaw was run out from a good throw by Ian Sefton as he attempted a risky second run. It left Tish needing just 19 runs with four wickets in hand – but they collapsed under pressure and Carew were delighted to pick up another vital victory.
