Narberth hold on for draw

Narberth (109 for 8) drew with Lawrenny (147 for 7)
A gritty captain’s innings from Ian Hughes helped Narberth claw their way to a draw against a battling Lawrenny side which at one stage looked likely to win.

But Hughes top scored with 36 not out and there were also runs for Kyle Quartermaine (21) and Aaron Keane (a speedy 22) in support.

A late 36 not out by wicket-keeper Hugh Griffiths (including four fours) also helped Lawrenny achieve a very respectable 147 for 7 at Narberth, just three runs short of full batting bonus points. It allowed the home side three bowling bonus points for the efforts of Ben Hughes (1 for 35), Ian Hughes (2 for 19) and Matthew Johns, whose canny slow stuff earned him the best figures of 3 for 28.

Simon ‘Chief’ Cole (21), Brad McDermott-Jenkins (32), Steve Lewis (11) and Rob Williams (16) also managed double figures for Lawrenny as they used up all their allotted 40 overs after a delayed start.

Narberth rarely looked likely to reach their target but they managed to hold on at the finish with some gritty late batting.
Umpires: Dennis Chiffi and Les Hastings.
Scorers: Peter Hughes and Malcolm Thomas.
