Lawrenny claim last ball derby victory

Lawrenny (138 for 7) beat Cresselly (137 for 8)

Ian Jenkins was the toast of his Lawrenny colleagues as the veteran all-rounder hit the winning run off the final ball of the match against neighbours Cresselly.

Lawrenny needed four runs off three balls in a real nail-biter before snatching the verdict and condemning Cresselly to bottom place in the table at almost the half-way stage in the season.

Cresselly never found it easy as Rob Williams bowled his 12 overs for a miserly 12 runs whilst picking up three wickets, and found support from Steve Lewis 3 for 44 and Simon Cole (2 for 41).

Skipper Phil Williams and Julian Arthur led the Cresselly batting with 38 and 37 respectively, with minor contributions from Nick Davies (11), Sam Harts and Richard Harries (both 11 not out in a productive final few overs).

Sam Harts (2 for 35), Lyn Richards (3 for 30) and Stefan Jenkins (2 for 28) all bowled their hearts out for Cresselly but James Buckle (30) and Brad McDermott-Jenkins (25) batted well for the homesters, as did Rob Williams, with 25 vital runs alongside Ian Jenkins (16 not out) at the finish to swing a very good game finally in Lawrenny’s favour.
