Two young Pembrokeshire cricketers have recently represented the Welsh Girls under-13 cricket team and came away having made a winning debut.

Chloe Field plays her cricket for Haverfordwest and Lleucu George (12) turns out for Crymych, and both played for Wales in a friendly against their counterparts from Shropshire at Panteg Cricket Club.

Several girls from Pembrokeshire travelled to Neath, Cardiff and Ebbw Vale on numerous occasions throughout the winter to attend trials, before both Chloe and Lleucu gained selection to the Welsh squad in January.

They have since practiced with the rest of the squad on a monthly basis at both Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, and Neath College.

Both girls clearly enjoy sport, with Chloe, the daughter of Haverfordwest player Ben Field, having played cricket for Haverfordwest CC under-13s and Hook Ladies.

She started out as a seven-year-old and, although something of an all-rounder, prefers to bowl.

Chloe is also a very useful netball player for Haverfordwest Chaos Netball Club and County Schools, Hockey for Haverfordwest Hockey Club, and Year Eight County Schools’ Champion for javelin representing Tasker Milward School.

Lleucu is a year seven pupil at Ysgol y Preseli and her brother Rheinallt plays cricket and rugby for Crymych, while her preferred sport is rugby. She plays as a flanker with the Crymych under-12 team which won the county final for their age group, scoring a try, and also went on to win at the Scarlets as the county’s representatives.

Wales 95 for 8 beat Shropshire 80 all out with Lleucu claiming two run outs and Chloe bowled well despite not taking a wicket.
