Burton too hot for Saundersfoot to handle

Burton Ladies were too strong for newly recruited Saundersfoot Ladies. Burton impressed with both batting and bowling, securing 138 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs before restricting Saundersfoot to 28 for 8 in their reply. There were some individual batting performances from Finola Scale, Pam Asson, Rebecca Jones and Sarah Morris, who all attained scores into the twenties. Accurate bowling and tidy fielding secured eight Saundersfoot wickets and one to watch for the future is bowler Lilly Thomas.

The 12-year-old showed proficiency in her bowling technique, no doubt gained from dad, Henry Thomas who, coincidentally, was coached in his youth by one of of the umpires, Brian Griffiths.

It was evident to those watching that Saundersfoot, in their first ever season of cricket, were somewhat inexperienced in comparison to Burton Ladies.

They have been in existence for some 27 years and their greater experience and confidence was evident as they dominated from start to finish. Having only been formed this year, this season will provide a valuable learning curve for Saundersfoot and with determination and sustained effort and training, their time will come. Saundersfoot Ladies earned credit for the way they battled on but it was Burton who took a comfortable win with a superb performance.

Burton Ladies innings: Finola Scale 26 (retired), Tina Inward – 14 (run out), Pam Asson – 22 (bowled Vicky Phillips), Rebecca Jones – 26 (retired), S. Morris – 24 (run out on last ball of innings).

Saundersfoot Ladies innings: Sarah Mansbridge – 11 (run out), Emma Wooles – 8 (not out).
