Beresford is class in Llangwm win
12:00pm Thursday 5th July 2012 in Sport
Llangwm (145 for 5) beat St Ishmaels (140 all out)
A classy innings of 70 not out by opener Will Beresford helped Llangwm gain a deserved five-wicket win over St Ishmaels at Pill Parks.
Set a total of 140 all out by Tish, Beresford held the innings together with six fours and two sixes as James Venables chipped in with 14 and Steve Mills provided the necessary impulsion as he slammed two fours and four big sixes in his speedy 43. For Tish, the only wicket-takers were Jonathan Pawlett (3 for 45) and off-spinner Daniel Flynn, who claimed 2 for 40.
Asked to bat first on a damp wicket, Tish struggled to 26 for 4 before Karl Rhead showed what an asset he is likely to be after transferring from Haverfordwest, scoring a powerful 60 that contained six fours and four sixes before he was bowled by Steve Mills.
Rhead shared a stand of 70 with club captain Andrew Palmer (whose 35 included a six and two fours before he was bowled by Alistair Platten), whilst Phil Cockburn chipped in with 11 and Robbie
Thomas offered resistance at the end as Ollie Davies (1 for 8), Chris Inward (2 for 32), Alistair Platten (2 for 24) and Richard Brock were the successful bowlers for Llangwm in this vital
victory.
Umpires: Dave Brandon and Denis Chiffi.
Scorers: Janice Brick and Wendy Bradshaw.
