St Ishmaels 4

Fishguard Sports 1

Three goals from Gareth Fawcett helped St Ishmaels to a comfortable win over Fishguard Sports in the final of the Mike Jones Memorial Trophy, the traditional curtain-raiser at Solva AFC.

Tish reached the final after a 2-0 win over host club Solva, while Fishguard Sports played really well to beat Clarbeston Road 5-1.

Tish held the advantage for most of the match, well-reffed by Huw George.

They took the lead in the opening quarter when Fawcett came up against Dean Hopson and just got the vital touch past the Sports' keeper.

Fishguard bounced back with half time in sight as good work by Nathan Hart allowed Arwel Thomas to score from close range - but there was still time for Tish to go ahead before the oranges as Fawcett powered his way through to find the net.

The second period saw Tish score early on to kill off Fishguard hopes of a come-back and again Fawcett was heavily involved as he linked with Jason Griffiths and then put in a difficult low cross which was knocked into his own goal by an unlucky Sports' defender.

Fawcett claimed a deserved hat-trick when he unleashed a shot from 18 yards to set the seal on victory for St Ishmaels.
