Jordan impresses in UK Championships

Jordan Harding has recently returned from Sheffield after competing for Pembrokeshire at the British Age Group Championships.

The 14-year-old, from Merlins Bridge, is a pupil at Tasker Milward School.

She qualified to swim in the 100 metres and 200 metres backstroke at the British Championships after finishing first in Wales in both events at the Welsh Youth Championships in Swansea earlier this year.

Jordan progressed through the heats and into the semi-finals of the 200 metres backstroke, but finished outside her personal best and just therefore, outside a place in the final.

Her 100 metres backstroke proved to be her best event as she swam a great personal best and progressed through to the semi-final and then the final. She finished just outside the medals in sixth place in another personal best time of 1.05.95.

Jordan also qualified as part of the Pembrokeshire relay team where she swam in the 4x100 medley relay and the 4x100 freestyle relay.

Jordan said she owed a ‘big thank you’ to the Haverfordwest Pool Foundation Trust, Haverfordwest Town Council and Haverfordwest Swimming Club for helping her reach her potential and making the trip possible.

They all assisted by providing financial support towards the week’s accommodation, transport, individual entry fees and chaperone pass.

Since returning home, Jordan has also been selected to represent West Wales in the National County Team Championships in Sheffield in October.
