Two girls saddle up for HOYS
11:30am Thursday 4th October 2012 in Sport
Two Pembrokeshire girls are ready to put on a show this week in Birmingham.
Lucy Parr, 24, and Grace Gibbon, 15, both from Haverfordwest, have qualified for the annual Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) at the Birmingham NEC Arena.
The event starts Wednesday, October 3rd (today) and runs until Sunday, October 7th.
Lucy, who has competed in riding events since she was young and represented Wales, will enter the DWelsh Cob category.
She has competed at the event before, but never on her own horse, that has been bred by Kath Hall in Goodwick.
Lucy lives in Hill Mountain and says she is looking to “enjoy the experience.”
Grace, who attends Ysgol Dewi Sant school, will enter the Workers category on her horse, Paddy.
The horse is based in Simpsons Cross with her grandfather, Birt Lavis, himself a former point-to-point champion trainer.
Grace qualified courtesy of a superb performance at a recent event in Cornwall, and has this year won two different Supreme Championships on another horse, Ozzie B.
The sport is certainly a family affair as her older cousin, Kayleigh Slater, has also won a number of shows in 2012.
Grace is said to be “very exciteed” about the challenge.
