Merlins Bridge 3
After last week’s shock league defeat by the Sports, champions Merlins Bridge gained sweet revenge with cup success over the same opponents.
The visitors were still reeling after last week’s shock 5-2 defeat, but the Wizards got their act together this week to stroll into round two.
Stephen McNabney opened the scoring on 20 minutes, the striker beating a defender and drilling a low drive past keeper Ben Evans.
Player/boss Matthew Price struck a second goal ten minutes before halftime.
Price beat a defender and then cracked a shot that went in off the opposite post to put his side in a comfortable position.
Ten minutes after the interval and Simon Thomas added a crucial third, scoring with an instinctive near post finish.
Two minutes from full time and Dan Storer’s deflected shot off Dai Davies gave the Sports their only goal of the cup-tie.
