Swifts pay the penalty

Landore 3
Monkton Swifts 3
(AET Landore won 6-5 on penalties)
Last season’s beaten semi-finalists Monkton Swifts agonisingly crashed out on penalties at Swansea League outfit Landore.
It finished 2-2 after 90 minutes and then 3-3 after extra-time. Michael Canton and Lee Gilpin both missed in the dreaded shoot-out and left the door wide open for Landore to snatch victory in dramatic fashion.
The Swifts got off to a dream start as they led 2-0 at half time. Billy Vaughan scored from a corner with a glancing header and Michael Canton got on the end of a Lee Evans through ball for his side’s second.
The hosts pulled a goal back in the second half and three minutes from full time Landore were awarded a dubious penalty that they despatched to square matters.
In the extra-time period the hosts took the lead only for Canton to score his second of the game and force the tie into penalties that the unfortunate Swifts lost to bow out at the first hurdle.
Monkton Swifts: Dan Roberts, Lee Evans, Dan Harts, James Russell, Shaun Jones, Billy Vaughan, Jamie Callan, TomMeiring, Matt Davies, Lee Gilpin, Mike Canton. Subs: Aaron Goldsmith, James Phillips.
