Coaches set to be stars of new campaign
11:00am Sunday 4th July 2010 in Sport Pembrokeshire Awards
Sport Pembrokeshire is backing a new campaign aimed at celebrating the impact of coaches and volunteers on sport.
Pembrokeshire County Council’s sports development arm is supporting Sport Wales’ new Behind Every Star campaign.
The nationwide campaign has recruited 11 of the country’s sporting heroes to highlight the key role played by the people on the sidelines.
A travelling exhibition of photographs of the 11 athletes with an inspirational coach of their choice will travel around Wales until October.
“We recognise and value the contribution made by the hundreds of people who give up their time to support sport in the county,” said Ben Field, of Sport Pembrokeshire.
“It’s the backing of coaches, parents and volunteers that keep our community sports clubs going week in, week out throughout the year,” he said.
“That’s why we support this campaign and why we have special categories honouring their vital role in our annual Sport Pembrokeshire Awards.”
Chairman of Sport Wales, Professor Laura McAllister, said support for the campaign from local authorities, governing bodies, groups and individuals had been impressive.
“It just goes to show the importance of coaches and volunteers to sport in Wales,” she added.
