CHRIS Coleman says he’s frustrated and disappointed to be without star man Aaron Ramsey for Wales’ World Cup qualifiers against Austria and Georgia next week.

The Arsenal midfielder, who was Wales’ best player as they reached the semi-final of Euro 2016 this summer, has been sidelined by a hamstring problem picked up in the Gunners’ opening Premier League match against Liverpool on August 14.

He missed the 4-0 win over Moldova on September 5 and has not been included in Coleman’s squad for the matches in Austria on October 6 and at home to Georgia on October 9.

The Wales boss also revealed that Ramsey had suffered a setback in training with Arsenal and he says he cannot be sure that the midfielder will be back in time for the home clash with Serbia on November 12.

“I had an indication that he was going to be out for three weeks when he initially did it,” said Coleman. “That was six weeks ago.

“I’ve had more information from Sean [Connelly], our head physio who is liaising with Arsenal, and he’s broken down in training so I’ve not yet been given a date on when he’ll definitely be back.”

Asked if he expected Ramsey to be available for the Serbia clash, Coleman said: “I can’t be sure. I was sure in the last camp that I’d have him for this camp.

“I spoke to Rambo two or three days before the press conference and I thought we’ll have him back for this camp at least.”

And Coleman again appeared to criticise the way Ramsey has been treated by Arsenal and manager Arsene Wenger since the summer.

“It is frustrating, it’s preventable,” said the national manager.

“I don’t know the exact history of what he’s been doing in the last six weeks so it’s hard to comment on was he pushed too hard or not pushed enough – I don’t know.

“I’m disappointed because we’re without him again and could that have been prevented if he was looked after when he got back from the tournament? I don’t know.

“You can’t help but think ‘if only…’ and for us to be without him for 30 per cent of the campaign is disappointing.

“He belongs to Arsenal but I can have my say because he’s a Welsh player and I can say what I feel,” he added.

“There’s nothing wrong with being honest. I’m not insulting anyone.

“I think people can understand our frustration and disappointment.”

Coleman said the player too is frustrated by the situation.

“The biggest thing will be Rambo himself – he’ll be devastated that he’s missing big games. He’ll be absolutely gutted,” he said.

“He loves the big stage. He absolutely loves it – playing for Arsenal as well. He loves being a part of that Arsenal set-up. They’re a great team.

“He needs to be on the pitch. He loves expressing himself for Arsenal and Wales and he’ll be frustrated.”
