WALES midfielder Andy King says the players have no problem with their ‘cursed’ grey away kit, writes Andrew Penman.

Chris Coleman’s men have lost all three of the games they have played in their current second strip, which is officially described as anthracite in colour.

After defeats in grey at Euro 2016 to England and Portugal, Wales might have to don the unlucky shirt again on Thursday for their World Cup qualifier in Austria, who are expected to wear red at home.

Coleman suggested at the weekend that his players were affected by the kit they wear.

“No-one wants to wear our grey kit, I will be happy if I never see that kit again,” said the Wales boss.

“The red kit is the kit that we will always want to play in and wear, we love being in the red. It is something you look at it.

“If you are Austrian it is something you would look at, if you know the opposition prefer playing in a certain colour.

“Portugal made us wear the away kit in the semi-final in the Euros, even though they were in their own away kit.

“Russia thankfully allowed us to wear red when we beat them, but they could have made us wear grey.

“The players will talk about it, the Austrians will know about it, they should know about it. In years gone by I would have said to you that players do not care what kit they wear, but they do.

“If we have to wear it we have to deal with it, but ideally we will be in red.”

But, asked about the kit yesterday, Leicester City star King denied that it was a problem, insisting that the badge on the shirt was all that mattered.

“We've not spoken about it,” said King. “We wore it twice in the summer and we lost both times, but they were against good teams so you can't read too much into it.

“We're not going to make excuses; a kit is a kit and it's down to the players at the end of the day. We're happy to wear it.

“The badge is the most important thing, the pride and passion of wearing it and we all have that when we meet up.”
