FORMER Newport County AFC star Regan Poole says he would like a loan spell away from Manchester United next season.

The 18-year-old, who left Rodney Parade for Old Trafford back in 2015, made his senior debut for United in February 2016 (below).

And, while he hasn’t featured under Jose Mourinho, he has been a regular for the Red Devils’ under-23 side throughout the 2016-2017 season.

Poole is loving life in Manchester but he admits he would like to play in the Football League again after making his Exiles debut as a 16-year-old in 2014.

“I’ve settled in pretty well,” he said. “I’ve been there nearly two years now and it gets easier because you seem to find your feet every day more and more.

“We’ve had a decent season and I’m looking forward to next season.”

South Wales Argus:

Poole is set to discuss his future with United after representing Wales in the Toulon Tournament, which starts next week.

“I don’t really know what’s going on with me next season,” he said.

“We haven’t really had a chat about it. I suppose that will happen after the summer now.

“I’m looking forward to this tournament and then a little holiday with my family and then getting back to the hard work again.

“I would like to get out on loan,” he added. “I miss playing in the League and there was nothing better than playing in the League.

“It’s a tough one because I’m developing under the best coaches in the world at United and it’s all about what the club wants and what they think is best for me.

“I’m developing every day. The coaching and the training and the facilities we have is another level. It’s out of this world.

“Coming from Newport and what I had there, sometimes you have to just step back and think ‘I’m a very lucky boy’.

“I couldn’t be developing in any better way because I have everything there for me.”

Poole admits that it is difficult when United are linked with big money moves for fellow centre-backs like Burnley’s Michael Keane.

“I’ve had a little taste of the first team and that’s what I want again,” he said.

“I want to get back in and that’s always been my aim since I joined the club.

“But I’m only 18 and sometimes you just have to step back and think ‘I’ve still got a few years there and I’ve still got time so just be a little bit patient and wait your time’.

“I’ve got another two years and then an option [for another year] and I’m looking to extend that after my contract ends.

“You see these centre-backs coming in for millions of pounds and sometimes it does get you down but I’ve still got a long time there and hopefully I get longer after my contract ends.

“That’s my aim. I want to be at the club for as long as possible so I look beyond stuff like that [big money signings] and ahead to when I’m 21 or 22.

“Obviously it was nice to get my debut at 17, which was unexpected.

“For me that was an achievement and I just want more of it.”
