  • ""I took my kids to see the torch yesterday, and they experienced a great sense of community and civic pride as well as ideas for lots of sports they can play."

And how old are your children York Bob? If teenagers, I would be extremely surprised at your comments and if younger, they would have no idea what civic pride is or was. I would love you to ask them, in 10 years time, what they remembered about the torch coming to York. I speak from experience - many years ago, the torch relay came to my school and other than Tessa Sanderson, and missing classes, I remember nothing!

Also, I must take exception at your comment, "as well as ideas for lots of sports they can play." Isn't that what PE in school is all about? Did we really need every motorbike cop in North Yorkshire to be in York for this reason alone?

I am not having a go a you personally. I am sure that you enjoyed a trip out with your family and that you all had a good time. However, stand back, look at the immense cost at a time of austerity, and ask yourself honestly - was it really worth the £10000s it cost York and the £millions it is costing nationally?"
