CHRIS Green will never forget the moment Linford Christie sped to 100m glory at the 1992 Games in Barcelona.
Green felt the blue riband event would never be won by a British athlete during his life-time.
“For me the 100m is the main event of the Olympics and that’s why I would pick Linford Christie winning as my favourite ever moment,” he said. “I never thought I would see a British athlete win it but so it was a fantastic race.”
But Green also vividly remembers the 400m semi-finals at the same Games when a tearful Derek Redmond limped over the line alongside his father after suffering a hamstring injury midway through the race.
“That race summed up what the Olympics are all about in my mind,” said Green. “It was a real iconic moment and he was just desperate to get to that finish line even though he could hardly walk.”
