Daniel Fogg continued his Olympic preparation by claiming the national title at the British Gas ASA National Championships in Sheffield at the weekend.

The Chingford star was actually second home in the 1500m freestyle but was only beaten by Ukrainian competitor Sergii Frolov.

That meant the former Waltham Forest Gators swimmer was the first Brit home to claim the national title in a time of 15.26.29.

It was a fine swim from Fogg who touched home ahead of fellow British competitors Jack Burnell (15.28.46) and Lewis Smith (15.28.98), while Fogg’s fellow Olympian David Davies was fourth Brit to finish.

The 24-year-old will be on the hunt for two medals this summer at the Olympic Games as he goes in both the 1500m freestyle as well as the 10km marathon swim.

He will swim the 1500m first in the Aquatics Centre on Friday, August 3, before taking on the open water event seven days later in the Serpentine, Hyde Park.
