Spend over a penny on loo

I CONFIRM the criticism expressed by my ex-council associate Mike Carlile of the pending removal of the most conveniently situated toilets adjacent to junction of Maderia Road and Old Christchurch Road, popularly known as the ‘Taj Mahal’ toilets based on their attractive sold stone construction and expensively well fitted interior.
The cost when built about 25-30 years ago was around £30,000, in fact it was built under the then Borough Architect’s supervision, and now we hear this very important amenity has to go – why?
Whatever is envisaged to be developed on or around the site could well incorporate inclusion in the development if the Council wish to maintain the provision of conveniences in mid-town Bournemouth.
The closure or removal of toilets in our Borough is hardly ever followed up by another toilet to take their place, so please let this imposing building remain.
