David Millar was among an early group that made a break on stage 10
British cyclists Steve Cummings and David Millar were in the early break on the 10th stage of the Tour de France.
A 25-man break including the duo and points classification leader Peter Sagan (Liquigas-Cannondale), who has won three stages so far, established an advantage of more than five minutes 70 kilometres into the 194.5-kilometre route from Macon to Bellegarde-sur-Valserine as the peloton headed towards the Alps.
Cummings is a BMC Racing team-mate of Cadel Evans, who began the day in second overall, one minute 53 seconds behind leader Bradley Wiggins (Team Sky).
Millar (Garmin-Sharp) began the day more than 50 minutes behind Wiggins overall and the best-placed of the 25 in the general classification was Michele Scarponi (Lampre-ISD), who began the day 10mins 27secs adrift.
The Tour was set to negotiate three climbs on Wednesday, including the first hors categorie (beyond category) ascent, the 17.4km climb of Col du Grand Colombier at an average gradient of 7.1%.
