Johnston 5

Solva 3

Quality strikers Joe John and Adam Hawkins scored all of Johnston’s goals between them in a high-scoring victory over rock bottom Solva.

John finished the clash with a hat-trick and Hawkins hit the target with a brace, as the Tigers go second in the table, on better goal-difference from third place defending champions Merlins Bridge. The top teams play against each other at the Racecourse this coming Saturday.

The visitors got an early break through when Gary Reynolds’ cross was put in the net by Tigers defender Richie Davies, whose failed clearance looped over Martin Langdon.

The Tigers equalised on 20 minutes when John struck a low shot in the far corner from the edge of the box.

Five minutes later and John added a second, neatly turning and burying his effort from inside the box.

Another two goals in three minutes from Hawkins gave Johnston a healthy 4-1 cushion at half time.

Ben Jones pulled a goal back for Solva midway through the second half; the central midfielder deftly lobbed Langdon from the edge of the 18-yard area.

But five minutes from full time and classy John put the result beyond doubt, neatly tucking the ball past Davies to complete a thoroughly deserved treble for the division one leading goal scorer.
