STAR women’s amateur golfer Becky Harries finished runners-up at The English Open stroke play championship, held at Tandridge Golf Club in Surray.

The top-rated golfer from Haverfordwest carded impressive scores of 72, 74, 70 and 70 to finish two over par behind winner Hayley Davis, of England who won by six clear shots and finished four under.

Harries, who birdied two of the last four holes to finish the event on two over par. She was one ahead of Sarah-Jane Boyd (Truro) who shot a great closing 65 and of Meghan MacLaren (Wellingborough) who was one-under for the final round.

Last week, she competed in The Ladies British Open at Ashburnham Golf Club, and won the best gross for over 23s and was part of the thee-woman Welsh team that won the team award.

Becky flies out to Japan next week to play for Wales in the World Team Championship. In the middle of this month she will play for her country in the Home Internationals in Aberdovey Golf Club.
