FAW Trophy – Round 2

Hakin United 5

Pengelli United 1

Hakin United came from behind to convincingly defeat Pengelli United at The Obs.

The visitors are currently fourth position in the Carmarthenshire Premier Division, and have a playing record of three wins, a draw and a defeat from five league outings.

United lead one-nothing at half-time, striker Peter Lewis unleashing a low right-foot drive that comfortably evaded keeper James Manson.

The Vikings were without top scorer Nicky Woodrow, troublesome hamstring and the influential James Stanmore, attending a friends’ wedding.

Manager Gary Dawes gave his team a good dressing down at half time and came into the second period with a lot more attacking purpose.

Six minutes after the break and the Vikings grabbed two goals in the space of a minute to take the lead. Firstly, Jonty Bennett made no mistake at a corner. Secondly, Stevie Mathias lobbed keeper Mark Beer for a delightful second.

On the hour mark and Adam Davies added a third with an easy tap-in, supplied by an inch perfect cross by Justin Harding.

The Vikings at this stage were purring and it was no surprise when Ashley Bevan drilled home from 12-yards out. Ten minutes before full time and Harding scored at a corner to complete the rout, and ensured The Vikings’ name is in the hat for the third round.
