Gents

LAST Saturday, were the Fishing News Cup 0-14 and the Fred Dytor Shield 15-28. A field of 54 played reduced because both the Tigers and Rabbits were competing at Garnant Park.

The competition was keen with countback separating the first three in the 0-14 category. It was Liam Eva who came out on top followed by Chris Oliver and Mike Arnold each with a nett 70. Liam also had the best gross of 73.

It was Craig Robertson who carried the day in the 15-28 category with a highly impressive 67 nett, which was also the best overall score. It was good to see one of the senior golfers, Richard Brock, continuing his good form with a nett 71 in second, closely followed by Wyn Lewis in third.

The standard scratch for the day was 70 with only Craig Robertson having a handicap reduction. He will now play off 15.

The results carried points for the Brian Bebb Order of Merit. Liam Eva was the principal beneficiary and he now leads from long time leader Tom Hughes by one point on 41 with three others tied on 31 points in third.

The twos kitty was shared by Lea Nicholas, Don Wells, Mike Arnold and Craig Robertson.

Seniors

LAST Thursday, the seniors played a stableford competition which was also a qualifier for Colin Reynolds points; 32 players took part on a glorious day.

There were some excellent scores with two players with 42 points; three players with 41 points and three players with 40 points.

Best score was by Howard Webber with 42 points with 23 points on the back nine beating James Martin who had 19 points on the back nine

Club Captain Gwyn Scale who scored 41 points but unfortunately did not sign his card and was disqualified which meant that he could have been sharing the leadership in the Colin Reynolds salvers.

No changes at the top of the leader board in the race for the Colin Reynolds Salvers with three more qualifying competitions to play.

Jimmy Martin hit the only two on the par three fourth hole known as the ‘valley’.

Course standard scratch for the day was 39 points which meant that the following players had their handicap adjusted. Howard Webber 19 to 18; Bryn Gee 7 to 6; Jack Jenkins 26 to 25; Geoff Davies 25 to 24; Jimmy Martin 21 to 20 with John Clarke going from 20 up to 21.

The presentation was carried out by Martyn Price seniors’ captain.

As of and including Tuesday, September 16 all stableford roll ups competitions will be counting for handicap purposes

Congratulations to Brian Keen who won the Pembrokeshire Seniors’ Past Captains competition played at St David’s City Golf Club last Tuesday.

On a glorious day for golf with a field of 21 taking part; Brian had the top score of 35 points; also taking part from Milford were Peter Ryder and Dick Wooding (jnr).

The day was organised by Joe Gardner the St David’s City golf club seniors’ secretary.

The seniors section has arranged an away trip to Mond Valley golf club (formerly named Inco golf club) which is in the Swansea area on Monday, September 29.

In the final of knockout individual cup for the Esso Val French Cup will be played between the surprise of the year Dick Wooding (senior) who is 88 years who will play Richard Brock who beat Martyn Price in the semi -final three and one.

In the pairs knock out finals; congratulations to Roy John and Bert Jones who beat David Britton and Peter Ryder three and two; the final was played last Thursday.

Ladies

LAST week it was the finals of the Knock Out Cups for the golfing year, and the Webber Cup was played between Margaret Hicks and Karen Lewis, the latter was confirmed the overall winner. It was also the final of the Centenary Cup which is a pair’s tournament. The winners were Margaret Hicks and Maeve McGee and the runner- up were Pearl Slate and Cheryl Eva.

Last Tuesday, in glorious sunshine, 16 ladies played in their weekly tournament. The winner was Jackie Skelhorn with 39 points, runner-up was Pauline Summons who also had 39 points, but lost on count back Sylvia Rees and Jackie Skelhorn shared the twos kitty.

Last Wednesday, Lady Captain Pat Evans, and her Match Secretary Karen Pullen, played in a semi final match of the Jubilee Foursomes at Derllys Court Golf Club against a pair of ladies from South Pembs. The weather was glorious and it was a very closely fought match with Pat and Karen being one up going up the 18th hole. They kept their nerve to win that hole which means that they are now the finalists and will play against a pair of ladies from Gower at Ashburnham Golf Club on October 8 in the grand final.

S even pairs of ladies played in the Daily Mail Foursomes last Saturday and there were good scores carded. The winners were Denise Kimber and Eileen Jenkins with a nett 65.5 and the runners-up were Eileen Davies and Diana Warlow with a nett 71.

The annual Joyce Clarke Spoons (Best Gross) and George Clarke Club (Best Nett) tournament and there was a good turnout from the ladies who were again lucky to have some fine golfing weather. The winner of the Joyce Clarke Spoons was Karen Pullen with a gross 85 and the runner-up was Jackie Skelhorn with a gross 87. The winner of the George Clarke Club was Keri Broome with a nett 68 and the runner-up was Karen Pullen with a nett 69. Barbara Phillips won the twos kitty.

Tigers

MILFORD Tigers travelled to Garnant Park Golf Club last Saturday, leading the first division only four points were required to win the championship. The final result was halved 4.5 points each giving the Tigers an unbeatable total, well done gentlemen, all who played throughout the year contributed to this excellent result becoming Dyfed League 1st Division Champions 2014.
