Gents

THE curtain came down on summer golf with the traditional Town v Docks fixture on Saturday. There was an excellent turnout with 32 teams participating in the match-play. Fired up by an intoxicating punch served up by Sue and Owain Picton, the Docks team led in fine style by club Vice-Captain Gwyn 'Birdieman' French, triumphed over the Town team by 9 matches to 7.

Both teams celebrated in time honoured style in the 19th hole to bring the summer season to an end. The Winter League will start on the November 15 with time still to sign up for what should be an orgy of competitive match-play.

This Saturday is a stableford with spaces available. This will be followed by the Presentation Evening when the season's competition winners will be presented with their trophies. The presentation is scheduled for 8pm and the prize-winners are asked to make every effort to attend.

Ladies

LAST Tuesday, nine ladies played in their weekly tournament with the weather continuing to be very mild for the time of year, making the golf most enjoyable. The winner was Eileen Jenkins with 32 points and the runner-up was Barbara Phillips with 31 points. There was one two recorded and the lucky winner of the kitty was Denise Kimber on hole 16.

Last Saturday, it was the bi-annual Ladies Captain -v- Ladies Vice Captain fun match, and 16 ladies played, so there were four teams of four players and the format was matchplay. Despite a very light shower of rain, the weather did hold off and the final result was an emphatic win for the Vice Captain's Team by 3 1/2 matches to 1/2 match. The ladies enjoyed a meal in the Club's restaurant which was followed by the presentation of the Shield by the Captain to the Vice Captain.
