Narberth 4

Blaenymaes 2

NARBERTH caused an upset by defeating Blaenymaes at Jesse Road to march into the third round of the West Wales Intermediate Cup.

After two heavy straight league defeats, the Bluebirds showed steel to come from behind and knock the current Swansea League Division One leaders out of the prestigious competition.

The visitors were well on top in the first period and were good value for their one-goal lead at half time.

Ten minutes after the break and Matthew Price equalised from close range. Jordan Williams was up-ended inside the box and Tony Evans had his spot-kick saved by the keepers’ legs.

However, the hosts did take the lead; Dorian Davies’ low direct free-kick went under the wall and found its way in the far corner.

The Swansea outfit pulled back an equaliser and the tie was heading for extra-time.

In the 87th minute the tie took a dramatic twist as Narberth were awarded a penalty that player-boss Price converted and sent the keeper the wrong way. Deep in injury time and Ashley Williams broke clear on the counter, rounded the keeper and tucked the ball into the empty net and completed the upset at Jesse Road.
