Senior Cup Round Two

Milford United 0

Prendergast Villa 2

PRENDERGAST Villa reached the quarter finals after gaining a hard fought two-goal victory against Milford United at Marble Hall.

High winds, and heavy conditions, made it difficult for both teams to really get the upper hand in this all Division Two cup-tie.

As the tie looked to be heading for a goalless first period up popped vastly experienced striker Joe John to score with a header and gave his side a one-goal cushion at the break.

The Robins worked hard in midfield with Ashley Mathias, Ryan Mansell, Liam Davies and Ryan Wilson locking horns with Villa’s Damien Ellis, Richard Hilling, Richard Davies and Michael Atyeo.

Jake Davies looked sharp up front for the visitors and showing beat skill with his cheeky back heels, creating space for others.

Robins’ striker Chris Thompson worked the channels but could not get a clear shot at Villa keeper Peter Blain’s goal.

The Villa put the tie to bead as they added a second goal with barely five minutes left on the clock. Substitute Tom Wilks rose highest in the box to plant his header past the helpless Robins’ keeper Nathan Jones.

Villa player manager and skipper Simon Gilderdale was pleased his team came through a tough tie and is looking forward to the quarter final draw.

Milford United manager Phil Marchant said: “It’s a game we could have won but I don’t think either side showed their true capabilities today.”
