THE 2014 Pembrokeshire Karting Championship drew to a close with competitors across the County racing under the floodlights at the season finale.

Claiming his third title at the previous event, Sam Joseph (Swansea) hoped to round off the year with a victory, but was denied as Adam Jones (New Hedges) took a surprise win.

Despite missing out on the win, Sam is now the most successful driver with three Pembrokeshire Karting titles. Elsewhere Richard Francis (Cross Hands) retained his Heavyweight title for the second year running. Carwyn Bowen (Efailwen) emerged as the 2014 Rookie of the Year.

As a prize, Sam and Richard will be sent on an exclusive factory tour of the Force India Formula One team. Both drivers will be shown the key areas of the factory to see exactly what makes a leading F1 team tick.

This year, organisers recognised the commitment of several drivers, with Leigh Freeman (Llangennech), Melany Howell (Waungilwen), Michael Davies (Carmarthen) and Bleddyn Davies (Haverfordwest) each winning a trophy.

Organisers would like to congratulate all drivers and winners of this year's Championship and also the spectators who braved the weather at each event. Thanks must also be extended to the tracks and sponsors whose support is invaluable.

Focus now shifts onto the Winter Endurance League, where teams of drivers take part in several two hour endurance races throughout the winter. Responsible for their own pit stops, teams must consider the best strategy to win. See www.pembrokeshirekarting.co.uk for more information.
