Johnston 2

Monkton Swifts 3

MONKTON Swifts gained a crucial victory against Johnston at Glebelands.

The Swifts are sitting second from bottom and really need to win their last two games of the season to stay in Division One.

The visitors took the lead as a shot deflected off Tigers’ player manager Jamie Picton and flew into the net. The Tigers equalised in the 16th minute, Steve Mills scoring with a delightful direct free kick. A minute later Robin Stanley struck his side's second goal of the game, which gave the Swifts a slender 2-1 lead at half time.

Five minutes after the interval Adam Hawkins equalised for The Tigers, but the visitors pinched the points as substitute Ben Goldsmith pounced for the Swifts' crucial winner in the 70th minute.
