Johnston (369 for 5) drew with Llanrhian (238 for 3)

There were records galore tumbling at Glebelands as Johnston scored a massive 369 for 5 against a makeshift Llanrhian side, who travelled minus key players at a wedding, elected to field first and chased leather for the whole of their 45 overs in the field.

But Llanrhian battled back through Ben (106 not out) and Jack Jones (87) to finish on a respectable 238 for 3 and leave local pundits scratching their heads and wondering when the last time was that well over 600 runs, and three centuries, were scored in a single match!

Johnston openers Steve Mills and Dan Sutton put on 238 runs for the first wicket before skipper Mills (13 fours and three sixes) celebrated his 100 by getting out caught off the bowling of Richard Reed from the very next ball.

Sutton was dropped on 30 and made Llanrhian regret their error with a sparkling innings of 152 that contained 20 fours and six sixes but even then the torture wasn’t over because Johnston used all 45 of their allotted overs in their quest for big runs and Lee Summons blitzed 53 not out (five fours and three sixes) alongside Rhys Dalling (20) in double-quick time.

Ben Jones anchored the Llanrhian riposte from his berth as opener and struck 14 boundaries in his quality innings alongside his Jack Jones, who looked as if he might be a fourth centurion as he rasped 11 fours and a six in his 87 before he was caught on the boundary by Steve Mills off Chris Fitzpatrick (2 for 40).

Lee Summons also claimed 1 for 45 but the Jones’ boys stand of 185 was another record to round off a thoroughly entertaining match!
