THE 2015 British Powerlifting Champions was another successful event for Pembrokeshire.

Seven members of our county’s Powerlifting Club travelled to Alexander in Scotland - and again came away with a host of medals and records between them.

First up were Lucy Elcomb (60kg open class) and Penny Phillips (67.5kg master 50+ class) - and both won gold with new personal bests.

Lucy squatted 90kg, bench pressed 40kg and produced a deadlift of 110kg for a total of 240kg. Penny meanwhile, squatted 90kg bench pressed 40kg and did a deadlift of 105kg to total 235kg.

Next was Haverfordwest youngster Liam Lynch, in the 75kg junior class.

He showed he is back to form by smashing all the World ‘raw’ records with a 200 kg squat, 40kg benchpress and 201kg deadlift.

Liam now holds World records for both equipped and unequipped ‘raw’ deadlift.

Next was Andrew Murphy, Carew ( 90kg junior), who squatted 270 kg, bench pressed130 kg and deadlifted 210 kg for a 610kg total and overall gold.

Andrew has been lifting for just a year and has gained 200kg on his overall personal best in that time.

Narbeth’s Adrian Phillips (90kg master 50+) continued his improvement as he squatted 215kg, bench pressed 135kg and deadlifted 230kg for a 580kg total and a well deserved silver medal.

Paul Murphy (90kg master 45+), hampered by a recent knee injury, finished with silver after he squatted 285kg, bench pressed 150kg and deadlifted 270kg for a 705kg total.

Last up was Pembroke’s  Aaron Hoskins, who showed everyone why he’s the No 1ranked 125kg lifter in the World with a superb 380kg squat, 230kg bench and 290kg deadlift for a 900kg total.
