HAVERFORDWEST youngster Ryan Edwards is gaining momentum in the Super 1 2015 British Karting Championship.

He has enjoyed two podiums in the first two rounds, finishing second and third.

The first round was at his local track in Cardiff, but a tough qualifying session placed him 10th at the start the heats. But from this position, Ryan drove brilliantly to finish second in the final.

He said: “Standing on the podium, shaking the champagne in front of the TV cameras was a dream come true! The support from the club was unbelievable, and thankyou to everyone.”

Round Two was at Buckmore Park, Kent, a track Ryan had never raced. He was straight on the pace, setting fastest sector times and growing in confidence. Qualifying was again disappointing, but he drove superbly to climb to third.

He now lies third overall in the Championship.

Ryan said.”I’m really pleased with my performance so far, my kart has been very reliable. I hope I can continue to earn points in the next five rounds, as you don’t necessarily have to win to become British Champion, you need consistency and a bit of luck!

“And I enjoy drinking the champagne as much as spraying it,” he joked.

Ryan also thanked Chris Philpot of Building and Land Services in Pembrokeshire for his assistance.
