Gents

LAST Saturday, there was an excellent turnout of 150 golfers for Mr Steve Brown’s President’s Day. With some excellent scoring coming in, the President’s Putter was won by Ian McCarthy with a massive 46pts playing off the white tees, 2nd was Chris Day with 43pts and 3rd was Nathan Rees with 42pts.

The Seniors’ section played off the yellow tees, and winning with 41pts was Owain Picton beating Ivor McKenzie in 2nd place with 40pts.

The Ladies’ section was won by Maeve McGee with 42pts, with Ladies’ Captain Karen Lewis coming 2nd with 42pts but losing on the count back.

For the Gents, Nearest the Pin was won by Scott Griffiths and the Longest Drive was won by Nathan Rees.

In the Ladies’ Section, Nearest the Pin was won by Cheryl Eva and the Longest Drive was won by Jan Goodridge.

There were 14 twos each winning £8.57.

In his speech the President thanked all those who took part for making it a most enjoyable day.

Seniors

BRIAN Mitchell held his excellent Captain’s day last Thursday, 49 players took part; on a warm day with a little breeze played on a course which was in excellent condition.

Brian provided a soft drink on the first tee for all the competitors before going out to play.

In a short speech at the presentation Brian thanked all the seniors for their support especially Brian Keen; David Christopher; Owain Picton; Roy John and not forgetting his second in command Tony Davey in organising his captain’s day; he thanked everyone who donated prizes for the raffle and to Owain Picton and Mike Durward for sponsoring the prizes for nearest the pins and longest drives.

There was some excellent scores once again returned with Gwyn Scale winning the competition with 43 points; 12 handicapper Gwyn scored 25 points on the front nine and 19 coming back; his gross score was one under gross for the front nine holes; for this Gwyn’s handicap was reduced by one shot down to 11. Also played for on the day was the Woodbine House Cup for past section captains; this cup was donated by Mr George James former Captain of the senior section; this year it was won by George Davies 42 points.

Number of balls in bag was 149 organised by Tony Davey and was shared by Ken Davies 150; Chris Pettit 147.

In the twos competition the kitty was shared by the following players; Peter Brock 4th hole “The Valley”; Steve Phillips 6th hole “Badgers; Harry Porter and John Sanderson 8th hole “Docs”; Russell James and Dick Wooding jnr 16th hole “The Gales”.

As it was a counting competition players who did not play to their handicap received .1 back. Besides Gwyn Scale losing a shot Frank Rimmer went down from 27 to 26; George Davies from 23 to 22 with Rolly Council going back to 14 from 13.

The presentation was carried out by seniors’ captain Brian Mitchell assisted by seniors’ treasurer David Christopher.

Last Tuesday, 34 players took part in Tuesday’s stableford roll up; the prize was shared by five players all with 40 points; Rolly Council; Bert Jones; Steve Phillips; Brian Mitchell; John Clark.

In the twos competition the kitty was shared by five players; John Hicks; Russell James and John Sanderson.

The senior section have organised an away golf day to The Grove Golf Club on Monday, September 7th. A bus will be provided for the players which will include 18 holes of golf; bacon roll and coffee on arrival plus a two course meal after the golf; the cost will be £30. inclusive. Seniors’ members wishing to go please put their names on the list which is posted on the notice board.

Ladies

LAST Tuesday, 14 ladies played in the weekly roll up. The winner with 37 points was Barbara Phillips and the runner up was Veronica John with 33 points.

Last Friday, the ladies played Carmarthen at home in their final league match of the season, the results were very close but the Milford Ladies were thrilled to win 3 games to 2 after some stiff opposition.

On Saturday, the ladies played in Steve Brown's Club President's Day. The weather conditions were very good to begin with but a few of the ladies got caught in some heavy showers and wind gusts on the last few holes. The overall winner with 42 points was Maeve McGee winning a £30 voucher and the runner up beaten on the last 6 holes also with 42 points was Karen Lewis winning a £15 voucher. The longest drive was won by Jan Goodridge and nearest the pin by Cheryl Eva. There were two twos won by Margaret Hicks and Jackie Skelhorn, both achieved on hole 16 and each winning £8 to spend in the Pro Shop.

The ladies enjoyed a lovely day and wish to thank Steve Brown for all his hard work in organising the day.
