Juniors

THE final Saturday trophy to be won before the junior presentation on November 1 was the Variety Club GB Trophy. A field high in quality competed and a solid score of 37 points by Abe Forsyth was the pick of the single figure players scores, but could not match the winning score of 41 points achieved by young Hollie Jenkins which saw her handicap reduced by 3 shots to 29.

The second Sunday Winter League took place, and Hollie put in another good performance scoring 36 points. But it was another of the new batch of juniors has taken the s spoils, with Josh Hutchings scoring 41 points and reducing his handicap to 18. Josh also takes an early lead in the Sunday Winter league, with week one winner Sam Houston still in second place overall.

Hollie, Josh, Sam and Jack and Bobby Jenkins are part of a group of very young Milford Juniors (12 yrs and less), who have developed from playing a few holes on the Clubhouse side of the course, to the level where in a short space of time they are competing in 18 hole competitions and picking up prizes. Bobby, Jack and Hollie also played in one of Wales' premier junior opens last weekend at St Pierre, Chepstow - quite amazing really when you consider all three were playing 6 hole competitions up until Spring this year. There is also a fair sized group of regular 6 hole players at Milford who will also develop into the 18 hole competitions over the next few years, and the results being achieved by the juniors named above should be an inspiration to any children starting on their golf exploits.

A lot of these rapid improver's regularly have coaching with Elliot Harding, and it shows that combining this with hard work and natural talent will pay off.
