HAVERFORDWEST Cricket Club and Pembrokeshire County coach Simon Williams has received a prestigious award as recognition of his good work in 2015.

Last month, Simon was crowned the Young Coach of the Year for Wales, at a special awards day in Loughborough.

The former STP pupil was joined by more than 20 other nominees at the National Cricket Performance Centre, and was required to conduct a series of coaching drills while being assessed by ECB 'elite coaches' Graham Thorpe and Peter Such.

Later that evening, Simon was announced the winner and received his award from former England international Such.

"It's really nice to get something like this," he said.

"I enjoy coaching juniors and get a lot of satisfaction from it. It's brilliant for me to see youngsters I work with go on to play senior cricket."

Simon began coaching at Haverfordwest seven years ago after encouragement from Andrew Phillips.

He is now head junior coach at the club and next season will take charge of the Pembrokeshire under 15s alongside Huw Scriven.

The Pembrokeshire under 14s and 15s are hoping to raise funds for a tour to Barbados next year. Anyone wishing to help with sponsorship can contact Simon via Haverfordwestcc@gmail.com.
